It is difficult to make this story short. In fact, it could have been endless!!
This image was taken at Masai Mara in 1987. I then said "I will be back"!
It took 31 years, but it was worth waiting for!!!
Camera and lenses much better this time :-)
We stopped for one night at Ole-Sereni, Nairobi.
A very nice hotel next to Nairobi National Park.
From the terrace one could enjoy the view and the sunset.
Next morning, off to Masai Mara!
It took about 45 minutes to get to this airstrip where we were picked up by a guide from
Oltepesi Tented Safari Camp.
What a place it is!!
We freshened up, had a quick lunch, and then out for an afternoon drive :-)
First meeting with the lions ...
... and a jackal
... trying to be creative with the Wilder-beast ... there were still a few that had not left for Tanzania
... up before sunrise next morning
... what could be better??
... another early riser ...
... you get really close up to the lions ...
... not in a good mood ...
... the elegant secretary bird ...
... time for breakfast after a few exciting hours ...
... enjoying life!!
... our guide, Jackson, who was very helpful and clever to position the vehicle in the right position for photographing ...
... four of the fast five, scanning the area for prey ...
... and the alarm went ...
... at full speed ...
... no chance to escape ...
... a short glimpse of the African wild cat in the late afternoon ...
... the Lion King ...
... two of the six pack, Koshoke and Kiok
... Ground Hornbill
... in for lunch, prepared by the fabulous cook, Evalyne :-)
She made us the most delicious food during the 9 days we stayed at the camp!!
... we were well looked after in the camp. Young Johnson :-)
... and Johnsons father, Nalala (?)
... my favourite cat!!
... after a few minutes, bringing back a kill
... just an innocent cub <3
... another amazing morning!
... scaring us :-)
... melting hearts <3
... safe with mummy
... low angle
... Serval cat, the most beautiful of the small cats...
... the fast five!!!
... at the peeing tree, marking their territory
... on the hunt
... a young wort hog this time ...
... quenching thirst
... just beautiful !
... changing guide. Domenick proved to be as excellent :-)
... stopping for breakfast
... beautiful sunset
... the last two days, Shadrack, was guiding with the same skill as the other two.
... close up
... Grey Crowned Cranes
... Hyenas can be cute
... part of life ....
... made sure no lions behind :-)
... with some help by Photoshop ...
... Bat-Eared Fox
... Doa with a kill ...
... Doa
... the six pack. I got the identification from somebody who knows them, and Masai Mara, well.
... back at the camp ...
... John Siololos father died a few days before we arrived, and were invited to the traditional ceremony, and take photos. We felt honoured ...
... the funeral was held a few days later ...
... sad to leave Oltepesi Tented Safari Camp and the friendly people!
Sorry, I only got his hand holding the lensball. However, he was helping Evalyne.
Somehow he managed to escape my camera :-) Very nice person!
Hoping to return before long!!
